ISAM™
Integrated Surge Anoxic Mix
The ISAM™ is a total treatment system incorporating
BOD, TSS and nitrogen removal along with sludge reduction
in an integrated system.
Raw (crude) sewage enters a covered anaerobic reactor
for pretreatment, sludge thickening and sludge destruction.
Complex organic solids undergo hydrolysis to simpler soluble
organics which pass to the surge anoxic mix (SAM™)
tank. |

In
addition to flow regulation, the SAM™
tank provides an anoxic environment for rapid denitrification
of recycled nitrates and concurrent stabilization of the
soluble organics from the I-Tank.
The conditioned mixed liquor then passes to the final
aerobic tank for completion of BOD and nitrogen removal
and solids separation.
A proprietary control system optimally controls and paces
the system to provide high (tertiary) level water quality.
The anaerobic tank can also act as a selector to provide
enhanced phosphorous removal.
The ISAM™
has also been used as a stand alone system to thicken
and destroy organic sludge from other biological treatment
plants, significantly reducing sludge disposal volume.
